There are two specific roads that new immigrants travel down when they arrive in Canada. The first road is quite easy to enter, yet is packed with frustrating traffic and gridlock. The other is like a highway, clear and full of the excitement that only the open road can provide.
Yet most professional immigrants entering into Canada enter and travel down the first road, one that’s congested and confusing.

With Diwali approaching, I can’t help but think of small business owners across the Diaspora and around the world who are busily preparing for the start of a new fiscal year.
Religion and culture have great influence in the business practices of merchants. The South Asian tradition is no different.

Just because it's been out of the headlines doesn't mean that small business owners can forget: the next scheduled increase in BC's minimum wage happens November 1.
BC's minimum wage increased for the first time in 10 years on May 1, 2011, to $8.75. Two subsequent increases are scheduled on November 1, 2011 and May 1, 2012.
BC has also introduced a new liquor server minimum wage modeled on what currently exists in Ontario. The increases to this wage rate will increase at the same time as the general minimum wage increase, but in smaller intervals.

I confess: I am a terrible auntie.
A close friend had a baby six whole weeks ago – and I still haven’t found the time to go see the child.
No wonder then, that as we collectively struggle for an elusive work-life balance, the prospect of more time off is manna to hungry souls.
Premier Christy Clark knows this, and knows politically, she’s on the side of the angels by introducing a new statutory holiday for BC in the throne speech: Family Day.

My first blog post! Hello South Asian Post Readers. My hope with this blog is to help inspire and empower you and share with you some tidbits from my life.
I have been working on a little show you may have heard of "Life and Style with Zara" since January this year. We premiered on Joy TV and then switched to Chek and Novus TV. It has been an insane, awesome, mind-blowing ride.

Recently while going through my social media account I noticed an entry by a friend of my cousin’s out in Calgary. The entry was a comment about this person’s pictures posted on her site. The photos were of her and her preteen daughter. Both mother and daughter were wearing South Asian outfits.

I recently attended my very first stagette.
At first I was apprehensive as I didn’t know the bride’s friends, and not being much of an imbiber I didn’t know if I would fit in.
It was a blast!
Girls can party. It was, from my understanding a fabulous party. Of course, there was a lot of drinking. Everyone took it upon themselves to make sure the bride had a drink all the time. The poor girl was puking by the end of the night. She did last till the wee hours of the morning before she overdid it.
