Dare to Dream

Musings of Zara Durrani, Creator and Host of Life and Style with Zara airing on Chek Channel 6 (Wednesdays @7pm and Sundays at 230pm) Shaw and Novus TV.

My first blog post! Hello South Asian Post Readers. My hope with this blog is to help inspire and empower you and share with you some tidbits from my life.

I have been working on a little show you may have heard of "Life and Style with Zara" since January this year. We premiered on Joy TV and then switched to Chek and Novus TV. It has been an insane, awesome, mind-blowing ride.

I started my own production company this year, without much past experience or education in the field. Jumped right in, hoping and praying that God and intuition will take me on the right path. One thing that I did learn to do was "listen" really listen to that inner voice, that kept guiding me. Here we are today, almost finished season one and I have had the opportunity to interview Mayor Robertson, Bif Naked, Rick Campanelli, Lama Marut just to name a few.

All of this on a shoe-string budget, with a lot of love and heart. It has been an intense journey and what I have learnt so far is, Anything Is Possible. Really.

Steve Jobs' recent death, has got me thinking a lot about my own mortality. I didn't quiet know about much of his past until recently. And it made me realize how important it is to make each day count and find what you love and do it. There is no point in having the safety and security of a regular job if you are miserable. If you are passionate about video games, dancing, traveling whatever your calling, be crazy and daring enough to take that leap of faith towards your dreams.

Once you do decide to go for it, you will see how everything falls into place and you keep getting favourable breaks. As Mr.Coelho would say "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

I challenge you to ask yourself if you are truly happy with where you are at in life. If you are, then Bravo! Keep DOING what you are doing, as it's obviously working.

If you are unhappy, it is time to make a change. Take some time to yourself. Go on a retreat (I went to Bali), or a walk, or make time to just close your eyes and meditate and ask yourself what would really make you happy. Even if it's crazy write it down.

This is coming from a girl from Pakistan who grew up as a tomboy, fantasized of walking on runways, performing on the big screen and meeting Bryan Adams ( geek alert: I was a member of his official fanclub!) I have crossed all of those among many other dreams off of my list.

Be bold my friends and have the nerve to go into unexplored territories.

I will leave you with these words from the amazing visionary, Steve Jobs;

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
