Recently while going through my social media account I noticed an entry by a friend of my cousin’s out in Calgary. The entry was a comment about this person’s pictures posted on her site. The photos were of her and her preteen daughter. Both mother and daughter were wearing South Asian outfits.
The mother was responding to a comment made about her and her daughter wearing the same outfit in two different pictures. She was apologizing about her faux pas and explaining how they had worn the clothes to two different functions and didn’t realize that they posted pictures wearing same outfits.
Reading this entry made me think about how shallow that person must be to bring such a minor thing to someone’s attention. Her comment on this poor woman’s site must have made the woman feel stupid, not to mention trigger insecurities because the woman not only apologised to all who may have seen her photos, but also took down the photos. Also imagine how this must have affected the preteen girl. What it may have done to her self-esteem, especially in this very impressionable age.
Over reacting on my part? I don’t think so. I would love to hear comments from you dear readers on this topic.
This happened to me a few years ago when I wore the same outfit to a function four months later. My faux pas? Some of the guests, a handful, were in both functions. One of the women came up to me and reminded me that I had worn that particular outfit before and why was I wearing it again. I’m not the type to take rudeness like this lying down. I let her know my choices are based on my comfort level and not some stupid code made by shallow women who think it is uncool to wear an outfit more than once after spending hundreds of dollars on it.
I don’t know how this silly code came about. Or why many women are paying any attention to it. I say to the woman on the social site to repost her pictures, take her apology back and just concentrate on herself and her beautiful daughter. That there is more to life than to see who wears what or who carries what handbag. That will be the next blog!
