Vancouver's Vaisakhi parade and the Sun Run are expected to create some traffic troubles this weekend.

About 80,000 to 100,000 people will likely come out to watch the Vaisakhi parade on Saturday morning in South Vancouver.

The annual Sikh celebration, which marks the beginning of the Punjabi harvest year, is organized by the Ross Street Temple, located near Marine Drive.

The parade will leave the temple at around 10:45 a.m. PT affecting traffic along Marine Drive, Main Street, 49th Avenue, Fraser Street, 57th Avenue, and Ross Street.

Parking in the area will be limited, so organizers suggest taking transit. They're also asking drivers to be patient.

Vaisakhi marks the birth of the Sikh faith, the creation of the Khalsa and pays tribute to the start of Punjabi harvest. It's one of the most significant dates in the year for Sikhs.

On Sunday morning streets will close for the annual Sun Run starting at 5 a.m. PT. The race winds its way from downtown Vancouver through the West End, across the Burrard Bridge, along Fairview slopes and then back across the Cambie Bridge to BC Place.

In addition, ongoing construction will continue on the City of Vancouver's Burrard Corridor Project, affecting the Burrard Bridge area, according to TransLink.

Vaisakhi Day Parade in Surrey returns on Saturday, April 22, starting at 9 a.m. at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar, 12885 85th Ave., Newton.

Last year’s event saw more than 350,000 attend Vaisakhi parade in Surrey.
