First-time event launches dream for future

Following the succcess of the 3rd annual Toronto Singapore Film Festival (TSFF), Asia Pacific Bizlinks, in partnership with the TSFF, is bringing a Singapore Film Night to Vancouver for the first time.

Event organizer Albert Lee was motivated by the similarities he sees between Singapore and Vancouver.

"Singapore is a cosmopolitan city state with multicultural communities similar to Vancouver, so we found it attractive to share Singapore-made films, which reflect such diversity, with the multicultural communities here," said Lee.

The organizers hope to attract both Singaporeans living in Vancouver and Canadians from other backgrounds to attend the event, which will encourage interactions between audience from different communities.

"We are hoping that after this inaugural event, we could work together with some Singaporean film makers and film enthusiasts in Vancouver to establish a Vancouver Singapore Film Festival, a sister organization similar to TSFF, to jointly organize future festivals in Toronto and Vancouver annually," said Lee.

The festival will include two feature films — Just Follow Law and Singapore Dreaming — as well as three short films: Café, G23 and Blood Ties.
