Surrey Food Bank's 10th Annual 'Breakfast with the Bank'

Raj Hundal was nominated as the NDP Candidate for Surrey-Tynehead in July 2011. He is a graduate of UBC and the University of Manchester’s School of Law with a life-long involvement in politics. Formerly a political aide to well respected Member of Parliament for Surrey-North Penny Priddy and was elected as a Vancouver Park Board Commissioner in 2008. Raj worked with the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society, where he provided immigrant support services, acting as a liaison between Surrey’s cultural communities.

On May 18, I had the opportunity to support the Surrey Food Bank's 10th Annual Breakfast With The Bank at Surrey's Bollywood Banquet Hall. The Surrey Food Bank brought together so many people who showed their support to this organization at 7 AM and raised a significant amount of money in such a short period of time.

It was truly a moving experience listening to people like Marilyn Herrmann (Executive Director, Surrey Food Bank) and many others whose families struggle(d) with some of life's greatest challenges. It also provided an opportunity to learn about the great work that the Surrey Food Bank is doing that help to fill in the gaps.

I commend the efforts of the Surrey Food Bank and the many donors in this endeavour. Listening to the stories of what so many people go through to survive each and every day in Surrey was eye opening. We have a collective responsibility to consider these difficulties with greater insight and understanding.
