Support NDP Call For A National Public Transit Strategy in Surrey

Raj Hundal was nominated as the NDP Candidate for Surrey-Tynehead in July 2011. He is a graduate of UBC and the University of Manchester’s School of Law with a life-long involvement in politics. Formerly a political aide to well respected Member of Parliament for Surrey-North Penny Priddy and was elected as a Vancouver Park Board Commissioner in 2008. Raj worked with the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society, where he provided immigrant support services, acting as a liaison between Surrey’s cultural communities.

On April 27, 2012 I had the opportunity to attend and support NDP’s call for a national public transit strategy. Following the Conservative budget that provides no leadership on transit, Newton-North Delta MP Jinny Sims, Surrey-Newton MLA Harry Bains and I reiterated the NDP call for a National Public Transit Strategy at her constituency office.

Across Canada and right here in Surrey, people are fed up with congestion and long commute times. There is a collective call to demand that the government address the transit needs of Surrey, where public transportation is increasingly inadequate, inaccessible and unaffordable.

Under the hash tags #GoodTransit, #BadTransit and #UglyTransit, Canadians can use Twitter to post comments and photos of what works, what doesn’t and what desperately needs improvement in their daily interaction with public transportation.

It is essential for the government to understand that thousands of families and individuals rely on transit and any delay of action will just cause further hardship.

Raj Hundal

Surrey-Tynehead NDP candidate
