Justice for Jassi

Our first encounter

Jassi was wearing a perfume that I can still smell today.
I made my way slowly towards her, but she did not look up. She showed none of the boldness of our first encounter.
Instead, Jassi was breathing heavily. Her face was moist.
I sat next to her, close enough to feel the warmth of her body, far enough to be circumspect of communal conventions.
And then suddenly she started crying.
The huge sobs made me jump off the sofa. I have never seen anyone cry like this. It was not the crying you see at funerals or weddings.
Jassi was sobbing hysterically with her hands covering her face. Her chest was heaving.
Panic replaced the nervousness that I was feeling just moments ago as Santosh, who had left us to go to the kitchen, came rushing out to see what the matter was.
All this is because of you. You have done some magic on the girl. Jassi has gone mad. She cries all night. See, what you have done to her... said Santosh as she sat next to Jassi and stroked her hair.
I stood there looking like the village idiot, trying to figure out if Santosh was talking to me.
Yes you she said as if reading my mind.
Finally the word I was searching for came to fore. Me? I blurted out incredulously.
Growing up, my mother used to scold me that I was a chatterbox - always having something to say even when there was nothing to talk about.
But that talent escaped me now. After what seemed to be an eternity, I asked again, this time trembling at what the answer would be.
Me?
“Yes you," said Santosh as Jassi buried her head in Cupid's lap.
Stop standing there like a dumbbell. You are shameless man... take care of this flower now commanded Santosh in exasperation.

BLESS HER. SHE FOLLOWED HER HEART. EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THE FREEDOM TO LIVE THEIR LIVES AND MARRY THE PERSON OF THERE CHOICE. SHE SURELY FOUND HER LOVE AND SOUL MATE. TO TAKE A PERSON'S LIFE FOR THIS AND DESTORY HIS. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN JAILED YEARS AGO. AND WHAT DOES THIS SAY FOR THE MOUNTED POLICE? ARE WE A COUNTRY THAT HARBOURS SUCH EVIL PEOPLE. 11 YEARS, SOMEONE SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE INJUSTICE OF IGNORANCE AND LETTING THE MOTHER AND UNCLE LIVE HERE AND ESCAPE THE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS.
