"Heartbeat" pulses with success
Thu, June 22 2006
“Heartbeat” has received not just one but three nominations for Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Costume Design, and Outstand Choreography. "As much as we are honored to be nominated at the Dora, we are also delighted to be the first Chinese stage show to be recognized alongside other large-scale international productions; this truly marks an important milestone for Chinese performing arts!" said producer Dennis K. Law Named after Dora Mavor Moore, a prominent figure in the establishment of Canadian professional theatre, the Dora Award is an annual award that recognizes five different categories of outstanding Canadian theatrical productions. These are General Theatre, Independent Theatre, Dance, Opera, and Theatre for Young Audiences. This year marks the 27th Annual of the Dora Awards, and a total of 197 productions will be running for 33 titles on June 26 at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Heartbeat, the most lavish and spectacular percussion dance show ever produced, premiered in Vancouver at The Centre In Vancouver for Performing Arts last summer. It was followed by a national tour as part of the 1st Annual Chinese Performing Arts Festival. Featuring an impressive cast of over 65 dancers, the show takes the audience through the history of drums and drum dance through two millennia of Chinese history. Supported by over 400 incredible hand-made period costumes and a multitude of fantastic sets depicting the glorious dynasties of China, the show was deemed "absolutely stunning” and “a sensual feast" by critics.
