HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER?
3 years - and they went by just like that.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
Went to high school together – met in the Eighth Grade just after Cat moved to Canada from the Philippines. We were best friends for years, and then one summer, for the first time in our friendship we were both single at the same time – and the rest is history.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT HER/HIS CULTURE? Andrew: The warmth of people I have just met, their “jokey” nature. Most Filipinos share a great love for food which is something I also value.
Cat: Canadian – the social consciousness, the natural willingness to help those who are less fortunate, and the lack of obsession on class or upbringing.Italian – the strong family values.
WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE OR FIND PECULIAR ABOUT HER/HIS CULTURE? Andrew: With most hot climate counties, the people are more passionate, which is good for love. But on the other side of the coin, hot tempers comes with the package.
Cat: People here are very nice and very kind, very civil, but they lack warmth. Oh, and the guys never wait up for their girlfriends! I always have to hurry to keep up with him when we’re walking.
HOW DID YOUR PARENTS REACT ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP?
Andrew: They were happy I found someone nice to share my life with.
Cat: They’ve known him for years because we’ve been friends for so long before we dated, so they were very happy. They definitely give him VIP treatment, - something they have never done!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD OR DISH FROM HER/HIS CULTURE?
Andrew: Lechon. Mmmm roasted pig over a fire on the beach. Tastes like a big plate of bacon.
Cat: Italian – his homemade risotto. Canadian/North American – I love prime rib or turkey with aaaalll the fixin’s.
WHAT WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS? Andrew: A person who takes his work seriously, but not himself. I like to joke around a lot and eat.
Cat: A fat nerdy guy in a scrawny girl’s body. Mercurial and headstrong.
WHAT WOULD SHE/HE DESCRIBE YOU AS? Andrew: A level headednerd who will do anything for a laugh, even things that are very embarrassing.
Cat: A sweet, funny smartypants with a scary temper.
