Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, Brahmo religionist, visual artist, playwright, novelist and composer whose works reshaped Bengali literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
He became Asia’s first Nobel laureate when he won the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature.
The India Club of Vancouver invites everyone to join a celebration of his life at the Vancouver Public Library (main branch) on Nov. 24, at 6.30 p.m., in the Alice MacKay room, 350 West Georgia St., Vancouver.
Consul General of India, Ashok Das, and consul General of South Korea, Tong-Mo Suh, are the chief guests at the event.
The event will include colourful dances, music and poetry, including a Korean Traditional Mask Dance performance by Chang Hyun Han, an amalgamation of shamanic rituals, farmers’ songs, and court dances.
Crystal Sharma will perform dances inspired by the Bollywood genre. Her performance will bring to life the intricate fusion of East and West, something Tagore always wanted to accomplish and promote. The performance is sure to leave an everlasting impression on the audience.
