Leading Malayalam actress Kavya Madhavan said she would marry a bank official working in Kuwait early next year. Madhavan indicated that she would quit films after the marriage. The 24-year-old Madhvan has acted in more than 40 films including Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Nalu Pennungal and Santosh Sivan’s Ananthabhadhram. The marriage comes at the height of her career, much to the chagrin of her fans. “It’s an arranged marriage decided by my parents,” she told a television channel. DHAKA, Bangladesh Bangladesh has deployed another warship to the Bay of Bengal and said it would send a top diplomat to Myanmar amid escalating tensions over gas exploration in disputed waters. Myanmar has discovered huge reserves of natural gas in the Bay of Bengal and has expressed its intention to carry out further exploration in a stretch of the sea also claimed by Bangladesh. Earlier this year Bangladesh divided its sea territory into 28 blocks and auctioned off the area to international oil companies as part of its efforts to end chronic gas shortages in the once gas-rich country. The sprawling 1,263-acre IPCL petrochemicals complex of Reliance Industries in central Gujarat is now fighting an invasion of langurs, and officials have been forced to summon three professional monkey catchers from Mumbai to get rid of them. The group of 250-300 langurs has created a security scare at this IPCL complex. The Hanuman langur of Ramayan fame is probably the best-known species of Asian leaf-eating monkeys. They are found in a wide range of habitats and are as agile on the ground as among the branches. Now they have proved themselves as agile on the pipelines and other structures of a chemical engineering complex. They are alleged to have poured kerosene over Vikram's wife Simran Singh, 27, and set her afire in December last year at their Tilak Nagar home. Vikram runs a small iron factory in the capital. In India, dowry is the money or valuables given to a woman by her parental family at the time of marriage. Many women are killed by their in-laws when they fail to fetch dowry. A 32-year-old journalist, fired from his job by a Hindi magazine has committed suicide at his home. Chanderkant, who had worked for the magazine for a year, was found hanging in a room at his Saraswati Vihar home by his wife Sunita. The police said they found no suicide note but quoted the distraught family as saying that Chanderkant was under stress since being sacked.

A Haryana village headman, who allegedly killed two women on Diwali night over a property dispute, has been arrested. Shribhagwan Singh, Sarpanch (headman) of Karaur village in Rohtak townis accused of killing murdered Roshni and Rani of Karaur village over a land dispute and had shot at their mother-in-law, Hoshyari Devi. Devi was shifted to a hospital in Rohtak in a critical condition and is still struggling for her life.

A 10-feet-long python weighing nearly 50 Kg was killed by a group of villagers in Uttar Pradesh, state forest officials said. Though the villagers claim they killed the python which was trying to swallow a cow, they have been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act, he added. Under the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA) 1972, killing of python is prohibited and treated as an offence, officials said.

Five children have died in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnore district after eating Jatropha seeds, mistaking them for cashew nuts. "The children, who were playing in the fields, probably mistook Jatropha seeds for cashew nuts and ate them," chief medical officer S.P. Singh told IANS on phone. Jatropha is an oilseed plant. Its seeds are not edible, but produce oil that can substitute diesel. Earlier, nearly 20 children were hospitalised in Jalaun district after eating Jatropha seeds.

The powerful youth wing of Nepal's ruling Maoist party has said it will start a protest programme in the India-Nepal border area if Indian authorities did not punish the policemen responsible for the alleged gangrape of two Nepali migrant women. Nepal newspapers reported that two Nepali women, who were part of a group of six travelling to Mumbai, were gangraped by policemen of India's Uttar Pradesh state Tuesday. The women were reportedly heading for the Gulf countries via India when they were stopped at the railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur town.

Twenty-one people died after drinking spurious liquor in northwest Bangladesh's Bogra and Joypurhat districts, The Daily Star newspaper reported. Police said 17 people died in Bogra and four in adjoining Joypurhat district after they took countrymade liquor supplied by drug dealers. Police have sealed off four shops and arrested nine people in the two districts, the newspaper said.
