The University of the Fraser Valley was ranked as the top public university in B.C. “of any size” for overall quality of education, quality of teaching, most satisfied students, best student-faculty interaction, and best career preparation.
UFV was also at the top, or sharing the top spot, in its category nationwide for having the smallest class sizes, most satisfied students, highest quality of education, highest quality of teaching, course variety/availability, ease of registration, and best library facilities.
UFV shares this category (small institutions, with 4,000 to 12,000 students) with 16 other universities, including Nipissing, Dalhousie, Thompson Rivers University, UBC-Okanagan, and St. Francis Xavier.
“What a year,” said Dr. H.A. ‘Skip’ Bassford, president and vice-chancellor of the newly-named University of the Fraser Valley.

“UFV has come so far since its inception in 1974, from our college roots through our years as a university-college, and now as a new university. Through it all, we have not wavered on our commitment to the needs of our Fraser Valley communities,” he said.
“To be rated as providing one of the province’s and the nation’s top undergraduate learning experiences is an incredible honour. Our students, faculty, and staff should be very proud. I certainly am!”
The Globe and Mail surveyed 43,400 undergraduate students to rate 55 Canadian universities for the study, which they claim is the largest comprehensive survey of Canadian undergraduates.
Student respondents score their schools on more than 100 different questions, covering areas as diverse as academic quality, class size, campus atmosphere, campus pubs and bars, and career preparation.
Hundreds of students at UFV completed the survey earlier this year.
Full survey results are available at www.globecampus.ca.
