New Works is pleased to present Kababayang Pilipino as part of Dance Allsorts. Praised for its “desire to promote deeper understanding of the spirit,” Kababayang displays the rich heritage of various Filipino folk dances, and the unique social, cultural, and artistic dynamics that the group maintains and upholds.
Conceived for youth by youth, Kababayang is inspired by each new generation, eager for discovery of themselves through knowledge of The Philippines, a country to which they are tied in culture, bound in heart and indelibly marked in spirit.
Kababayang takes place on Oct. 19, with shows at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre.
Tickets for the 2 p.m. show are pay-what-you-can, and for the 4 p.m. show are $10 for adults and $4 for children.
Now in its 11th year, Dance Allsorts is Vancouver’s most eclectic dance series. In partnership with the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre, New Works presents Dance Allsorts every month from September to May introducing all sorts of people to all sorts of dance.
The intimate, memorable shows feature dances of all traditions and from around the world. All shows are one hour and appropriate for all ages.
New Works presents dance that is sometimes wacky, mostly unpredictable and always enjoyable. What, exactly, does that mean? Bhangra, ballet, martial arts, hip hop and dances from around the world are examples of shows and workshops presented. We offer free and affordable performances and educational workshops for families and individuals.
