The Faerie Queen
Wed, October 15 2008
A delight for all ages, this full-length ballet is an enchanting retelling of William Shakespeare’s comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, adapted by John Murrell, about the romantic adventures, quarrels and reunions of two pairs of mortal lovers and the king and queen of the fairies. Ballet BC’s production unfolds on an enchanted landscape where love, lust, and magic weave tangled paths through the opulent layers of this mischievous tale of romantic rendezvous gone awry. Divided into 22 short sections, the classically-based but decidedly contemporary choreography flows smoothly, creating clever transitions from scene to scene. Accompanied by Purcell’s baroque score and adapted by Michael Bushnell and Owen Underhill, Alleyne’s critically acclaimed The Faerie Queen is a full-length story ballet, which premiered to B.C. audiences in 2000. It then toured internationally, was broadcast nationally on CBC in 2004 and was presented again to Vancouver audiences that same year. Tickets for The Faerie Queen range in price from $35.75 to $85 (plus taxes) and are available exclusively at balletbc.com, or by calling 604.732.5003 ext. 207. What: The Faerie Queen
