Francisco Agaton-Hernandez, 31, of Seaside, was detained at the Monterey City Jail for being an accessory to the murder of Singh. According to the Register Pajaronian Online, Hernandez is being held on bail of $1 million. The search is now on for Singh’s boyfriend, Victor Cabrera, 31, a Hispanic male. Police say Cabrera vanished soon after the murder. The chain of incidents began last Sunday morning when Monterey police responded to a report of a robbery and kidnapping on the 2100 block of North Fremont Street, according to media reports. Officers found Victor Cabrera, an employee of the gas station at that address, tied up. Cabrera told police that he was confronted at the door by two Hispanic males armed with knives who forced him into the business. The suspects demanded money, took the victim’s wallet and then kidnapped Singh, Cabrera reportedly told police. Police initially interviewed Cabrera, concluded that he was the victim of a crime and drove him to his home in Salinas. During the course of the investigation, however, Monterey police detectives discovered evidence that upgraded Cabrera’s status from a person of interest to a suspect. Detectives have determined the robbery and kidnapping reported by Cabrera did not occur. When police returned to Cabrera’s home he had vanished. Monterey police detectives information that indicates Cabrera may have had assistance from another person in committing the crime. The cause of Singh’s death has been determined as strangulation.
