Talent: Full time actor and screenwriter. Studied at the University of Calgary, majored in visual arts and minored in theatre.Inspiration: Has always been drawn to acting and the arts. "As a child I was always very creative. I began to notice women of colour in the media and found it to be inspirational. Like Sandra Oh, from (TV’s) Grey’s Anatomy."Cultural Background: South Asian. "Being a South Asian woman has influenced my choices in my career. I felt I had more to prove and that I had to fight harder for my goals."Awards/Accomplishments: Darshi wrote and produced the short film,Future Language of Slaves, which went on to win numerous awards at the Langara Unlock the Vault Film Festival. It was also screened at the Yubari Film Festival in Japan.Future Plans: Wrote and stars in a 20-minute short film entitled, Bollywood Beckons. A feature film inspired by Bollywood Beckons is currently in development. "I want to be a successful screenwriter and actor first, then possibly down the road pursue directing," she says. Darshi, along with partner Patricia Issac, is currently starting up the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival, or VISAFF, which will take place next year.Advice: "It is not easy, but if you love it you have to be honest to that. You have to make it work. If projects are not coming to you, create your own."Next Appearance/Event: Bollywood Beckons is currently being edited and will be sent to film festivals in June 2008.Favorite Actors: Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham-Carter, Christian Bale. "They take risks," she says.Favorite Movie: Before Sunset, After SunsetFinal Thoughts: "I love to travel.
