Douglas: Exhibition
Thu, August 04 2005
Put your mind and your body in a healthy space at Douglas College. The 10th annual Green Links art exhibition show is built around the theme of the psychological and health benefits of nature in the city.
Deuling, who works for the Greater Vancouver Regional District's parks department, is presenting works from her private collection. The exhibit is presented by the Institute of Urban Ecology at Douglas College. Through its Green Links project, the Centre aims to sustain the livability and health of the Lower Mainland through the preservation and enhancement of its natural environment. In tandem with the art show, the IUE is holding a series of workshops on the Healthy Spaces theme. Seminars include Healthy Gardens and Organic Gardening. Going green in the city can be a balm to the soul of the frazzled office worker, says IUE Executive Director, Dr. Valentin Schaefer. "Research shows that having an experience of nature within three minutes of leaving the office helps combat fatigue and stress," said Schaefer, noting urban tension can include noise pollution and ailments such as Directed Attention Fatigue.
