Shivani is studying to become a pharmacist

Name: Shivani Naomi Sarsthi

Age: 22

Ethnicity: Half Rajasthani, half British

Astrological Sign: Libra, so astrologically speaking, I should be balanced. Ironically, balance always seems to be what I'm striving for the most in life, but can never achieve!! I am getting closer to being balanced though, by making time for everything - school, work and having fun.

Currently Studying: Organic chemistry at SFU. I have applied to UBC's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences--it's quite competitive but I hope I get accepted into the program. Ultimately, my goal is to become a licensed Pharmacist and to take drugs and vaccines abroad to remote villages. There, I plan to educate and promote proper birth control and introduce modern medicine in places that need it the most. On the flip side, I want to raise awareness to North Americans with issues such as the oversupply, mass consumption and abuse of countless prescribed drugs. I want to stress the importance of preventative healthcare so when one ages they don't have to become reliant on pills for the rest of their life.

Favourite Asian Restaurant: Many, but to name a few - Thai House, Tropika and Samosa Garden

Last clothing purchased: A simple, yet elegant, black dress from Zioni.

Last shoes purchased: Enzo Angiolini, which at first while doing runway practice, were very uncomfortable, but then I began wearing 5 band-aids on each foot and they've gotten a lot better!

Last Accessories purchased: Don't remember, definitely not earrings though--my Mom has an obsession with buying earrings so she takes care of that department!

Name of a film star you would love to date: None... they should want to date me! I mean I am a regular person too, right?

More on Shivani

Likes: I love to travel and see other areas of the globe, I have been to London, Singapore, India, Texas, Toronto, and Las Vegas. India was truly immaculate.

Dislikes: I dislike people that don't take risks in life and live in a narrow mindset conforming to what everybody else wants of them.

Best Food Experience: I really, really love flavorful food, so it must be something Thai or Malaysian. My all-time favorite dessert is at Thai House and it is deep fried banana served with mango ice cream.

Fashion Nightmare: It took place at Vancouver Fashion Week at Canada Place in April 2005. Just before walking out onto the runway I had stepped onto a portion of the dress and it had ripped! I was so embarrassed and didn't know if I should continue walking, so I walked off stage. Then the designer I was modeling for frantically ripped that portion of the dress off and then the producer made me walk back out! Now that was a serious adrenaline rush!!

What are you currently wearing A white Buffalo tank top with black Guess track pants... (fashion faux pas #139, mixing brand names!)

Ideal Outfit Something classy that NOBODY has.

Favourite movie: Hotel Rwanda has got to be the best movie I have ever seen. Although, I even feel guilty saying that because horrific acts like this happen everyday around the world, and most of it goes unseen by North Americans. It's pretty sad that it has to take an Emmy nominated film to make people aware of what actually is going on in the real world.

Life Advice Just be yourself. And if you don't know who that is yet, then go and sit by yourself on top of a very high mountain and just think. Live out your own dreams in life, and don't base your goals upon what everybody else around you is doing. As my Dad always taught me, live in the now. Take risks in life....be all that you can be. Don't worry you can sleep when your dead!

What are you reading now Synthesis and Spectral Analysis of Aspirin (from my chemistry lab manual).

Do you smoke No, I care too much about my lungs!

Do you drink No, I care about my liver too. However, occasionally red wine is ideal for me.

Sport hobbies I used to be in almost every sport: soccer, softball, hockey, figure skating and horseback riding. My favorite would have to be figure skating because it is very graceful and solitaire.

Other hobbies Music...its my life! Maybe because my brother used to DJ, I always have the latest tracks. I love hip hop and R&B mainly and also some trance music.

Ever been heart-broken Yes, although I don't like to admit that! But...after all I'm only human.

Are you currently in love No.

Current emotional state Content and happy to be me.

Do you like dancing Yes, but my sister says I don't know how to dance! She is in hop hop dancing so she's got mad skills.

Reading Yes, I like reading books on spirituality, I also like exploring the origins of various different religions, as in today's reality, religion seems to be the world's biggest problem. I just completed a religious studies course that focused on Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, Shinto and Zen, and it was probably the most intriguing, rewarding course I've ever taken so far. Also a nice breather away from the agony of science! It definitely helped me stay grounded in this vast, ever-so-diversifying world.

Working out Yes, I used to work out regularly at the gym, but since the weather has been nice I much rather enjoy running around a nearby track field and golf course. My routine is to run for 5 mins then walk for 5 mins, then alternate for a total duration of 50 mins.
