Metro Vancouver’s Asian Heritage Month kicks off May 1 on a high note with an opening celebration featuring dynamic jazz artist and composer Vince Mai in a life debut performance of his latest CD, Stretchy. A dynamic soloist and well known member of various Canadian jazz and funk groups, Mai explores contemporary smooth-groove jazz from a world perspective, inspired by his travels and performances throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Trumpeter Mai was recently nominated by the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards for Wind Instrumentalist of the Year.

Hosted by Citizenship and Immigration Canada at the Frederic Wood Theatre, UBC, the explorAsian-sponsored evening begins at 7:30 p.m., with an artist reception to follow the concert. Tickets at the door: $20 general and $15 students/seniors. Tickets online: www.explorasian.org/vince_mai.html
